Save the Palace

Ms Previous DocumentSANDELLNext Document — I would also like to mention the Palace Theatre, a well-known heritage icon that was first opened in 1860 as the Douglas Theatre and has been operating as the Palace since 1912.

This rare mid-size venue has brought international and local live music acts to Melbourne, helping to build our reputation as Australia's cultural capital. It is currently at risk of demolition. Save the Palace, the Melbourne Heritage Action group and the National Trust are leading the strong opposition to the demolition. I urge the Minister for Planning to recognise the strong community opposition to its demolition and ensure the Palace Theatre is not lost to Melbourne forever.
