ELLEN: Hands Off Our Private Information

The Victorian Greens strongly oppose the Andrews Government proposal to sell key parts of the land titles registry.

Spokesperson for Treasury and Finance, Ellen Sandell, has criticised the move as another example of Labor outsourcing what should be a key responsibility of government - the legal management of land - in a move that will result in Victorians getting a raw deal yet again.

“This should be one of the primary roles of government; Labor's move to outsource their responsibilities and privatise key sections of the land titles office will be a terrible deal for the rest of Victoria.

“It will give peoples’ sensitive information to a private operator, and risks creating a monopoly and driving up prices for the services people rely on when buying and selling a house.

“Daniel Andrews has already admitted privatising Victoria’s electricity network resulted in Victorians paying more. He needs to learn from past mistakes and keep our key services in public hands.”
