Why not ban political donations from property developers?

Ms SANDELL (Melbourne) — My question is to the Minister for Planning. Given that Victoria's political donation laws are some of the slackest in the Western world, with former Speaker Ken Coghill recently describing us as 'lagging severely compared with most contemporary jurisdictions', can the planning minister explain to the Victorian people why he recently told the Property Council of Victoria why he will not ban political donations from property developers?

Veterans and Other Acts Amendment Bill 2015

Ms SANDELL (Melbourne) — As others have said, the Veterans and Other Acts Amendment Bill 2015 makes a series of small changes across a number of acts, and I will not seek to address all of them or provide a thesis on the history of war, as some others have, but I will highlight a few areas.

The Greens support the reforms to make it easier for trustees of patriotic funds to provide support to veterans and their dependants.

Supporting our hairdressers.

Ms SANDELL (Melbourne) — I must admit that hairdressing was not something I spent too much time considering before being elected to this place, but I have a new appreciation of my hairdresser since being in the public spotlight and new sympathy for people like Julia Gillard, who pointed out that females have to spend so much more time on their public appearance than their male colleagues.

Ms SANDELL (Melbourne) — It is with great pleasure that I rise to speak in support of this amendment from the Legislative Council, which is the first Greens amendment in this term of Parliament. We will also support the government's amendments, which make only minor administrative changes. We thank the Treasurer and the government for dealing with us constructively on those matters.

Adjournment - Docklands Primary School

Ms SANDELL (Melbourne) — I raise a matter for the Minister for Education relating to the need for a new school in Docklands. The action I seek is that the minister immediately release the results of the feasibility study, first commissioned in 2010, and any other analysis relating to the building of a primary school in Docklands.
