The Labor Government plans to sell off public housing land to private developers. RSVP to the ‘Save Public Housing’ rally this Saturday and say no to public housing sell-offs.

The Victorian Labor Government is planning to sell off public housing land to private developers who are set to make a fortune.

Labor wants to demolish hundreds of public housing homes and replace them with thousands of expensive private apartments, along with just a paltry 10% increase in existing public or social housing.

Under this plan, big property developers will benefit while the 35,000-long waiting list for public housing just gets longer. Similar privatisation of public land in Carlton and Kensington in the past resulted in no social benefits for public housing residents, and in some cases there was no increase in public housing at all. Developers made a mint and public housing residents lost out.

Instead, we need a new build of public housing like we had in the 1960s and to upgrade existing stock. We absolutely oppose the sell-off of public housing land.
