KEEP PUBLIC SITES FOR THE PUBLIC GOOD

Take Action

The Labor Government is ‘fast-tracking’ the sale of the former Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre site in East Melbourne. If this goes ahead, it could short-change our community forever.

It’s a beautiful area, surrounded by heritage churches, civic buildings, and the wonderful Fitzroy Gardens. It has close links to public transport and the city.

But if the Labor Government don't put the needed planning restrictions on the sale, this historic precinct could soon be overrun by expensive apartment towers.

The Eastern Hill Coalition, a collection of heritage, church, the East Melbourne Group and local residents, has banded together to protect our community, our heritage and our open space.

Together, we’re calling for this public site to be redeveloped for public purpose. We could have new educational, aged care, or community facilities – or at least some affordable housing.

We also need to protect Fitzroy Gardens from overshadowing and inappropriate development.

This is an amazing opportunity to build for our community. Join the call to keep this public site for the public good.
