Last year during the pandemic, nine public housing towers in Flemington and North Melbourne were placed into a ‘hard lockdown’. These were the harshest restrictions imposed anywhere in Victoria.

Throughout this time, my office helped many people to access urgent needs, like food, medication and information about what was happening.

Ellen and Federal Greens MP Adam Bandt supported the relief efforts of local youth leaders from Australian Muslim Social Services Australia during the public housing ‘hard lockdowns’.

While my Greens colleagues and I have always supported a public health response to COVID-19, we were extremely concerned about the way this hard lockdown was imposed. I led the call for an Ombudsman’s investigation, which made some very significant findings earlier this year, including that residents’ human rights had been breached.

I continue to advocate for more public housing and better communication with, and treatment of, residents.

Standing up for our local schools

For the past three years, I've been working with a group of parents to get more State Government funding to fix Kensington Primary. We’ve made some serious headway and have secured funding for urgent works, like cleaning up mould and building wheelchair accessible ramps. But a lot more needs to...

Campaigning to stop Labor’s bad tax on electric cars

A few weeks ago the Victorian Labor Government's new proposed tax on electric cars was dubbed by leading environmental organisations as the ‘worst electric vehicle policy in the world’ (and rightly so). The Greens will vote against the Victorian Labor Government’s electric vehicle tax in Parliament. Victoria is the only...

Supporting our local COVID-19 recovery

Throughout the pandemic, the Greens MPs and I have always supported a health-led approach to the pandemic. All along, we supported the Premier’s and Chief Health Officer’s actions to keep Victorians safe. However, we also haven't shied away from advocating to improve decisions where there were mistakes or extra needs...
