ELLEN: Upgrade South Kensington Station
Greens State MP for Melbourne, Ellen Sandell calls for immediate action to upgrade South Kensington Station.
The $11b Metro Tunnel will surface at South Kensington Station, but the Labor Government has rejected calls to improve the station as part of these works.
Ms Sandell was recently contacted by a father who lives in Kensington with his disabled son. Like many locals, his son uses South Kensington Station for his daily commute. He wrote:
"I worry about him on that platform each day because it is just so narrow and the express trains just rattle on through. It is time for an upgrade and it should be done sooner than later."
Quotes attributable to Ms Sandell:
"South Kensington Station is poorly designed and completely inadequate. The platforms are dangerously overcrowded and too narrow, especially for prams and wheelchairs."
"With construction already happening in the area, the Andrews Government must commit to upgrading South Kensington Station now."
"I will continue working with local residents until we get the safe and accessible station we need."
