FIX THE WASTE AND RECYCLING CRISIS

For years, Victoria has been in a waste crisis, with recycling stockpiled or exported instead of being recycled and reused right here.

Building a world-leading recycling industry right here in Victoria would create jobs while protecting our rivers, oceans and sea life. We can lead Australia in transforming waste and building a local industry.

Our waste and recycling wins include:

  • Campaigning for and securing a ban on single-use plastic bags in Victoria
  • A 10 cent refund on bottles and cans by 2023, which will save thousands of recyclables from landfill and waterways
  • A separate glass recycling bins for households which is being rolled out across the state
  • A ban on single use plastic cutlery, plates, drink-stirrers, straws, cotton bud sticks, and polystyrene food and drink containers (by 2023)
  • A government plan to use recycled materials in roads and infrastructure
  • Funding to grow our recycling industry.

I'm fighting for:

  • Upgrading and building dozens of recycling factories and composting facilities
  • A phase-out of more unnecessary single-use plastics, like plastic wrap on fruit and veggies
  • Mandatory targets for the use of recycled materials in packaging
  • Funding for projects that create a reusable culture, such as repair centres and refill stations
  • Stopping toxic waste incinerators, which harm our health and create pollution and toxic ash
