Yarra Pools Proposal Should be Explored
Greens State MP for Melbourne, Ellen Sandell, calls for government to assess the viability of the Yarra Pools concept.
Local community members have put forward a proposal for a not-for-profit pool or series of pools on the Yarra River, within easy reach of the city.
Ellen has written to the Ministers for Planning, Environment, Water, and Sport, calling on them to develop a business case for Yarra Pools, due to potential benefits in health and fitness, community-building, and education.
Quotes attributable to Ellen Sandell:
“The concept of creating a swimmable Yarra within easy reach of the city is an exciting one, and an opportunity that should be explored.”
“We could create a world-leading sustainable facility, which would benefit a range of people in our community, from local residents, to sportspeople, to people with a disability.”
“This project could pave the way to a cleaner Yarra River. The government should work with the community to take this project further.”
